1 whole and 1/4 substracted to 1/3 can be written as:
1 1/4 - 1/3 =
= 5/4 - 1/3
We have to find a common denominator which is 12:
5/4 = 15/12
1/3 = 4/12
So now we just substract numerators:
15/12 - 4/12 =
11/12
