Explain how the basic structure of the human respiratory system provides such a large area for gas exchange

The inner surface of the lungs where the exchange of gases takes place is very large, due to the structure of the air sacs of the alveoli. There are many alveoli in the lungs which has a million number of alveoli each lungs.
